DraftSight

DraftSight is a free standalone 2D CAD software for viewing, editing and creating DWG and DXF files. Designs created can be saved as the ff file types: JPEG, PDF, SLD, SVG, TIF PNG and SVG. These then can be published to eDrawings and Drawings Now. It can run on Linux, Windows and Mac OS and can be set up in 15 languages including English, Chinese and Spanish.

Nanocad

Nanocad is a free CAD software designed for the creation and editing of 2D and 3D objects. It works with the DWG file format. This unique application is perfect for collaborative work since drawings created using this freeware can be used with other CAD systems. It also has an excel-style Table Editor, and a platform compatible with AutoCAD.

progeCAD Smart

progeCAD Smart is a free MS Windows based CAD software that can read and write AutoCAD DWG 2D and 3D computer-aided designs. Its easy to use interface is closely similar to AutoCAD and is compatible with AutoLISP. This charityware is for personal and non-profit use only ideally for people who would like to learn on their own.

FreeCAD

FreeCAD is a free parametric 3D modelling tool ideal for product design and mechanical engineering. It can integrate plugins for added design support. It has a Sketcher, a Robot Simulation module, Drawing Sheets Module, a Rendering Module and an Architecture module. It is a multi-platform software that works on Windows, Linux and MAC OsX systems.

eMachineShop CAD Software

eMachineShop CAD Software is a free CAD software specifically for machine shop owners to help them design and create custom made parts. This custom application also has a built-in expert machinist that analyses designs created and gives feedbacks. Once the design is complete, users can then place their order for fabrication to start. It's compatible with Windows ME, 2000, NT, XP, Vista and 7.

DraftiT Version

DraftiT Version has an interface similar to MS Office 2007. It is ideal for first time CAD software users to help them create, edit, save and print their drawings. It supports both metric and imperial units and can be used in homes or offices. It runs on Windows 7, Vista, XP, and 2000.

ExpressPCB CAD software

ExpressPCB CAD software is specifically for creating and designing circuit boards on Windows 7, NT, 2000, XP and Vista. This program is easy to use even for beginners. After layouting, the program also provides a cost estimate and an option to order the item online.

AutoCAD Student Version

AutoCAD Student Version is free with a 3-year license for the use of students and teachers but not to be used professionally. It aids in the drafting of 2D and 3D designs. This version emulates the full version so students can practice and familiarize themselves with the look and feel of the commercial version.
